Pet-Safe Plants for Home Owners

by Lucido Global

With Spring in full swing you might be itching to bring some fresh greenery to your home, but if you’re a pet owner, proceed with caution. Many plants are actually toxic to cats and dogs. While you don’t really want your pet to chow down on any of your plants, here is a list of non-toxic varieties that are safe to keep around your four-legged friend.

INDOOR PLANTS

  • Areca Palm - also known as the butterfly plant, adds a tropical flair to your space.
  • Boston Fern - the shaggy fronds may be a tempting toy to your pet, but perfectly safe.
  • Polka-dot Plant - non-toxic, but may cause an upset stomach when consumed in large quantities.
  • Spider Plant - easy-to-grow indoor planes that also act as natural air purifiers.

OUTDOOR PLANTS

  • Magnolia - come in both tree and shrub varieties, neither of which poses a threat to your pet.
  • Pot Marigold - attract pollinators like bees to your garden, provide no threat to your pets, and require minimal maintenance.
  • Snapdragon - a popular choice in spring or fall as they can stand up to cool weather.
  • Sunflower - the seeds are an excellent food source for local wildlife such as birds.
